Demonstrating Hydroponics to the USAID Mission to Azerbaijan at the Caspian Agro Expo 2023

Back in Baku!

Danbury Hydroponics joined 9 other US companies sponsored by USAID at the annual Caspian Agriculture Expo in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May 2023. This was Dylan’s second trip to the conference, as last year, he represented the University of the District of Columbia to build relationships with local universities. This time around, Dylan was able to meet with farmers, agronomists, business owners, and students to offer hydroponic consulting services and begin conversations about bringing hydroponic equipment to Azerbaijan.

Meeting with Farmers, Students, and Agronomists at the Caspian Agro Expo 2023

We were hosted by Chargé d’Affaires Hugo Guevara and USAID Mission Director Michael Nehrbass whose teams helped us connect with US and Azeri companies. Thanks to Elshan Baloghlanov, who operates Greenway Farms in Maryland, Dylan was invited to meet with the Rector of Baku State University (BSU) and give a lecture on hydroponic and aquaponic food production. Danbury Hydroponics will be collaborating with Elshan as well as Josh Dusci of the Aquaponics Association to provide courses on controlled environment agriculture to students and professors of BSU. We donated the demonstration hydroponic system that we brought to the Expo to the BSU students for hands-on learning during the virtual courses.

After the conference concluded, our delegation was given tours of five farm operations, including an outdoor hydroponic blueberry farm (the first blueberries of Azerbaijan!) and an indoor hydroponic strawberry operation.

It was quite a fruitful trip, and we were even given a shoutout by global peace leader Samantha Power:
